Renewal reminders that actually work (without bank linking)
Email reminders, weekly digests, and calendar deep links — a privacy-first ritual that brings you back before money leaves.
Why bank alerts aren’t enough
Bank notifications tell you after money left. Subscription reminders tell you before — when you can still cancel, downgrade, or move cash.
Bank linking also shares data you may not want on a simple subscription tracker. Manual tracking + email reminders keeps control in your hands (EU-friendly, privacy-first).
The reminder stack that works
- Per-subscription reminder — email N days before renewal (default: 3)
- Weekly digest (Pro) — Monday summary of everything due this week
- Calendar view — visual month of renewals with deep links from email
Settings that matter
- Days before: 3 days is the sweet spot for cancel decisions; 7 if you need family approval
- Timezone: match your profile TZ so “Monday digest” aligns with your week
- One email per renewal date — dedupe prevents spam (we log sends in
reminder_logs)
Make emails actionable
Good reminder emails include:
- Subscription name and amount
- Renewal date in plain language
- Link to edit the subscription
- Link to calendar for the week view
That’s why Subscribes uses UTM deep links — click → land on the exact screen, not a generic login wall.
Build a weekly ritual
Every Monday (or your digest day):
- Open the weekly summary
- Mark anything already paid as renewed
- Cancel one candidate from the cut list
Four weeks of this habit beats any “AI scan my inbox” promise.
